This bright orange wildflower is also known as a Scarlet Paintbrush. It has clustered petals that resemble an artists tool. It is parasitic plant that is a member of the figwort family. It puts out roots that grow until they reach the roots of other plants where it can draws nutrition.
It blooms at the same time as the Bluebonnet and is often more plentiful in years when Bluebonnets are less abundant.
